‘Everyone has some dictador inside…’ This intriguing brand offers the best quality Rum & first ever Gin from Colombia while at the same time it is highly fashion-related and has established its recognition beyond any average alcohol category. Enjoy the story.
In the second part of the 18th century Severo Arango y Ferro arrived in Cartagena de Indias, in the Nueva Granada (former name for Colombia), with the intention of improving tax collection for Spain in the American Spanish colonies. Due to his strong and powerful nature, he was soon nick-named “Dictador”. When he discovered what we currently know as Rum, for him it was like love at first sight. His love for this tropical elixir led him to achieving his goal of becoming an important trader of distilled exotic sugar cane (spirits were at that time considered as currency) in the Nueva Granada.
The Birth of the Company:
In 1913, almost 180 years after Dictador’s myth was concieved in Cartagena de Indias, one of his descendants established the Destilería Colombiana. Don Julio Arango y Parra spent years researching everything about Rum production in order to become the finest Columbian producer in Caribbean Zone, while dedicating his life to honor Severo Arango’s legacy.
Fame & Success: Determined to showcase worldwide success, third generation of the family sought out international markets and export the Rum. Experienced investors in Europe were “enamored” – fascinated by the history and secrets of Rum and decided to invest their capital, knowledge and vast experience in the company.
Just 5 years later, Dictador’s products: Rum, Gin, Coffee and Cigars were being sold in over 60 markets; amongst them: UK, France, Germany, Russia, Scandinavia, Australia, Nigeria, Japan, India, China. Their main offices are in Colombia, Poland & China.
We are truly fascinated with the brand and their new campaign, especially the ‘main character’. See why by clicking here!
